Alloway Bank Books is an on-line secondhand bookshop in Bathurst, in central west NSW, a town remarkable for its beauty and its history. We are a family business run by Kathy Davidson who has over 20 years experience in the book trade. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and we carry just about every category of second-hand book, particularly Children’s books, History, Literature, Cooking and Craft, Biography, Romance, Reference and Science Books. To contact us you can phone 02 6331 2619 (please leave a message if we cannot take your call and we will get back to you ASAP), e.mail us at kgdavo@yahoo.com.au, or write to us at Alloway Bank Books, PO Box 2000, GPO Bathurst 2795, NSW, Australia.
How to pay for your books: We accept Direct Debit, Visa, Mastercard, Australia Post Money Orders, and cheques (in Australian currency only). Postage costs for National (Australian) orders and International Orders are according to current Australian Post charges. The latter are determined by weight of parcel, destination of parcel and mode of transport for International orders (Air mail or Sea mail).
Kathy began her life in the book trade about 28 years ago, working on large Campus bookshops in Sydney. She went on to spend 7 years working part-time in Gleebooks second-hand bookshop in Sydney and has been running her own second-hand book business in Bathurst for some years, first as a "brick and mortar" store, then branching out into on-line bookselling. Bathurst is a great place to run a bookstore with a variety of educational institutions and a large and 'voracious' population of book readers. Our name Alloway Bank Books reflects Bathurst's history as Alloway Bank was the name of one of the first land grants taken up by white settlers in the region.
As part of our commitment to excellent customer service we are very conscious of issues relating to the cost of shipping books, particularly for international customers. We want to be able to quote exact shipping costs in our listings and to do this we include current shipping costs from Australia Post so that customers will know (as soon as they access our catalogues) the total price for the books they wish to purchase. And to further help our customers in their ordering we include scanned images of the books and detailed descriptions of their condition in the catalogue listings and can send larger scanned images if required.
And, as further evidence of our determination to provide excellent customer service we are particularly concerned to provide our Australian customers with prices that compare favourably with overseas prices. If our Australian customers compare the cost of our books (book + postage) with the same titles in the same condition from registered overseas second-hand booksellers (book + postage to Australia) they will find our prices are equal if not cheaper (and the books get to them faster!).
